ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2017 phd. PROGRAM ADMISSIONS

In 2017, the International University is currently offering 2 PhD. programs in the following majors:

  1. Business Administration
  2. Biotechnology

1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

1.1. Research Proposal:

Applicant must submit a research proposal presented clearly the research direction, topic or research objective; an overview of related research situation; objects, aims, mission and expected research result; studying and research plan according to the 3-year program; experiences, knowledge, understanding and preparation of applicant for topic or intended research field; reasons for choosing International University to do research; proposed supervisor(s).
A hard copy of the research proposal must be submitted together with the application forms.

1.2. Supervisor:

At least one supervisor must be, as a minimum, an associate professor or doctor of science; or two scientists with doctoral degree shown in section 1.11.3 agree to supervise the applicant. If the applicant proposes potential supervisor who is not in the attached list, an acceptance from International University before registration is required.

1.3. Recommendation Letter:

Two recommendation letters from two lecturers or researchers who are currently Professor or Associate Professor or PhD holders in relevant field are required. The recommendation letter must include comments, evaluation about ability and qualification of the applicant such as:

  • Ethicality, especially professional ethicality;
  • Professional ability;
  • Working manner;
  • Research ability;
  • Team-work ability;
  • Strengths and weaknesses of the candidate;
  • Professional developing potential;
  • Other comments and level of sponsorship, recommendation for the candidate;

1.4. Verified document from the most recent government:

Provide a verified document from the most recent residence government for clear family members and have never been convicted of any criminal offence;

  • Application form for Graduate Program with photograph (for applicant satisfied the 3rd application requirement)
  • Application for exemption with photograph (those meet the exemption requirement)
  • Resume with photograph (certified by the authorities of the residential area or workplace)
  • Curriculum vitae with photograph (certified by the authorities of the residential area or workplace)
  • 02 copies of certified B.S and/or MS. Degrees
  • 02 copies of certified B.S and/or MS. Transcripts
  • 07 copies of PhD. Proposal
  • Letter of agreement on PhD. research advising from advisor(s)
  • Letter of recommendation from 02 recommenders
  • Letter of recommendation from work place (if available)
  • 3 recently taken passport size (3×4) photographs
  • English certification (if available)
  • Priority certification (if available).
  • For Vietnamese candidates who graduated with degree from a foreign educational institution:
    • An accredited certificate of the degree issued from Center of Testing & Quality Education – Ministry of Education and Training must be submitted before the graduate examination date (see instructions at https://cnvb.wordpress.com/quy-trinh-nop-ho-so/).
    • The commitment (required if submitting after the entrance examination date).

1.8. Tuition and Application Fees:

  • Application fee: 200,000 VND (approximately $9.5 USD)
  • For applicant in the Type 2, it is compulsory to:
    • Exemption fee: 180.000 VND (approximately $9 USD)
  • For applicant in the Type 3, it is compulsory to:
    • Entrance examination: 300,000 VND (approximately $14 USD)
    • Review course:
      • Biotechnology: 700,000 VND (approximately $20 USD)
      • Business Administration: 550,000 VND (approximately $20 USD)
  • For English Entrance Examination:
    • English Review course: 1,100,000 VND (approximately $57 USD)
    • Examination fee: 120,000 VND (approximately $6 USD)
  • English – Bridging program: ~ 5,300,000 VND (approximately $250 USD)
  • Tuition fee:
    • Biotechnology: ~ 375,000,000 VND (approximately $18,000 USD)
    • Business Administration: ~ 320,000,000 VND (approximately $15,000 USD)
(Note that this tuition fee is applied for PhD and master degrees awarded by International University, exclusive of the cost of textbooks and study materials, and the exchange rate USD will be announced in each semester.)

1.9. Entrance examination:

  • 1.9.1. For applicant who is exempt from the Graduate Entrance Exam (Type 1):
    • Defend the PhD. Proposal;
    • Take the English Entrance Exam (doctoral degree) or submit English certificates as mentioned in the section 3 for exemption;
  • 1.9.2. For applicant who takes the Graduate Entrance Exam without Comprehensive subject (Type 2):
    • Take Graduate Entrance Exam: Interview (oral format);
    • Defend the PhD. Proposal;
  • 1.9.3. For applicant who takes the Graduate Entrance Exam (Type 3):
    • Take Graduate Entrance Exam: Comprehensive subject (written format) and Interview (oral format);

Candidates for Biotechnology Forms of enrollment
Type 1: Master of Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Ecology, Genetics, Biology Applications.

Type 2: Full-timed Bachelor’s degree with honors in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Ecology, Genetics, and Biology Applications (within 12 months from the conferment of degree date to the application submission date).

Type 1: Vietnamese or foreign citizens have a master’s degree in Management or in majors close to Management with the minimum GPA of 6.5/10, 65/100, or grade B+.

Type 3: Vietnamese or foreign citizens have a master’s degree in Management or in majors close to Management, but have a full-time, regular bachelor degree in Management or in majors close to Management (shown in type 2) with good GPA.

1.10. English proficiency requirements:

  • 1.10.1. Conditions to be exempted from the English test: An applicant must meet one of the following conditions. Note: these following documents are submitted together with the application documents.
    • A Bachelor’s degree with major in English; or
    • A Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree whose language of instruction is English; or
    • Processing one of these certificates: IELTS ≥ 5.5; TOEFL iBT ≥ 61; TOEFLPBT/ ITP ≥ 500; TOEFL CBT ≥ 173; TOEIC ≥ 600; Cambridge Exam ≥ First FCE; BEC ≥ Business Vantage; BULATS ≥ 60; VNU-EPT ≥ 251; Accept certificates of: University of Language and International Studies – VNU, Hanoi University, University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Danang; Hue University of Foreign language, HCMC University of Education, SEAMEO RETRAC center (according document No. 1212/DHQG-DH&SDH). These certificates must be obtained within two years between the date of certification and the date of application submission.
    • Applicant passed the English test of the graduate entrance examination by the Vietnam National University – HCMC, with a score ≥ 60 and within two years between the date of examination and the date of application submission.
  • 1.10.2. If the candidate does not meet any conditions mentioned above, he/she must take the English graduate entrance examination.

1.11. Program format:

  • Full-time program:
    • Time: daytime, weekdays
    • Campus: International University, Quarter 6, LinhTrung Ward, Thu Duc District, HCMC.
  • In case student cannot choose full-time studying and gets approval from International University, he/she must complete the program in the required duration with 12 months full-time studying at least.

2. SCHOLARSHIPS:

2.1. Scholarship levels

There are three scholarship levels awarded to PhD. students who achieve excellent performance at the graduate entrance examination.

  • Level 1: 100% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging Program)
  • Level 2: 50% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging Program)
  • Level 3: 25% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging Program)

2.2. Scholarship conditions

  • Level 1: Graduated Master (or Bachelor) with Very Good  and above level; and PhD research proposal accepted by the Research Committee of International University with the score of 8.5/10;
  • Level 2: Graduated Master (or Bachelor) with Very Good  and above level; and PhD research proposal accepted by the Research Committee of International University with the score of 7.5-8.0/10; or PhD research proposal accepted by the Research Committee of International University with the score of 8.0/10 (not included level of graduate);
  • Level 3: PhD research proposal accepted by the Research Committee of International University with the score of 7.0/10 (not included level of graduate);
  • Participate as Teaching Assistants or lab instructors.

2.3. Conditions to maintain the scholarship

  • Maintain good standing with the GPA>70/100 with no grade below 50/100; and
  • Pass the Qualifying Exam (Mid-term report); and
  • Participate as Teaching Assistants or lab instructors.
