The beginning of the new academic year 2019-2020: International University welcomes more than 2100 new students
On the morning of September 25, 2019, International University – Ho Chi Minh City National University – (IU) held the opening ceremony of the academic year 2019-2020. In this new academic year, IU welcomes more than 2100 new students from 47 cities and provinces across the country.

Founded in December 2003, IU is the first public university to use English as the medium of teaching and research. Up to September 2019, IU has more than 8500 undergraduate students and nearly 800 graduate students.
Dr. Tran Tien Khoa – Rector of IU – shared his expectations for new students in the opening ceremony of the new school year.
The academic year 2019-2020 is the year that IU recruits new students from six different methods (the university with the most diverse methods in the country). Among the new students, 1280 are from the national graduation exam, 670 are from IU’s Scholastic Assessment Test, and 91 are owners of national and international academic awards, or from specialized schools throughout the country.

In the academic year 2019-2020, IU will open a new program, which is Accounting, increasing the total number of undergraduate programs of IU to 20. Currently, IU also has 08 graduate programs and 04 doctoral programs.

Each year, to encourage undergraduate and graduate students with good achievements, IU spends over 26 billion VND from the university’s fund to provide scholarships for those who achieve good results in the University Entrance exams as well as those getting good academic results at school. The scholarships, which are based on students’ academic achievement, are divided into two types: Full scholarships (100% of tuition fee – from 108 million VND to 156 million VND) and partial scholarships (50% or 25% of tuition fee – from 27 million to 78 million). In this new school year, the school awards 136 scholarships with a total value of over 16 billion to freshmen who have high results in the last entrance exam.
Nguyen Hoang Thi Khue – one of the students with the highest intake scores to International University in 2019 – represents freshmen to share joy and determination under IU’s roof.
After 16 years of establishment and development, IU has become one of the prestigious public universities in the Vietnamese higher education system with 11 programs meeting the standards of ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and 02 programs that meet the ABET standard (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). IU is an educational institution that has its quality accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET – 2016). In particular, IU is one of 07 universities among more than 7000 universities in Southeast Asia that achieves AUN-QA’s accreditation at institution level (2019).
