INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY SUMMARIZES 2023 ADMISSION RESULTS AND IMPLEMENTS 2024 ADMISSION PLAN

In the morning of January 16, 2024, International University – Ho Chi Minh City National University held a Conference to summarize the 2023 Admissionadmission activities. The conference was held for the first time by the school to summarize and evaluate the results of the 2023 undergraduate and graduate admission period, thereby proposing the 2024 admission admission plan.

In his opening speech at the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu – Vice Principal in charge of the school stated: The admission activities in the past school year underwent significant changes compared to previous years due to the Ministry of Education and Training issuing the new University AdmissionAdmission Regulations. Therefore, today’s conference is an opportunity for us to look back at the advantages and challenges, thereby drawing experience, discussing and proposing a new admission plan to contribute to implementing the 2024 admission process to achieve the expected results”.

Reporting on the 2023 admission results, MSc. Nguyen Thi Viet Tu – Deputy Head of the University Training Department – presented in detail the 2023 university admission activities in Ho Chi Minh City and compared them with the admission activities of previous school years.  Beside the advantages, MSc. Nguyen Thi Viet Tu also pointed out the limitations that need to be overcome for the 2024 admission period can take place more smoothly. In particular, MSc. Nguyen Thi Viet Tu also proposed the need to establish a specialized Communications and Admissions Department to carry out communication activities and promote the brand of the Vocational School, in addition to being able to manage the input admissionwork to ensure the scale and quality of the school.

Also at the Conference, MSc Nguyen Quang Vinh – Representative of the Student Affairs Department – gave a summary report on admission consulting activities in provinces outside Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 and proposed new directions to improve the effectiveness of admissionwork in 2024. One of the typical activities that the Student Affairs Department has implemented is the IU Tour experience program, expanding admission consulting and career orientation days in the southern provinces, etc.

Continuing the Conference program, MSc. Dinh Kim Phung – Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations – reported a summary of the 2023 admission consultation work under method 5, which has many positive points and also some limitations. Thereby, MSc. Dinh Kim Phung also proposed new implementation directions such as building preferential policies for foreign students enrolling at IU, connecting with international organizations DAAD to support students whose study programs have been suspended, recognizing other international English certificates so as to improve the effectiveness of 2024 admission period under method 5.

Following the program, Dr. Huynh Kha Tu – Head of the Department of University Training – summarized the university admission activities in 2023 and emphasized that: “Admission is always an important activity. Although there are many difficulties in the admission process due to objective and subjective conditions, with the efforts of all staff and the leadership of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors, the admission work of the school always ensures compliance with regulations and stability in scale, etc. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the majors that are currently lacking in quotas, identify the specific features and characteristics of each training program, expand the training professions according to the needs of society and have appropriate directions to improve for the 2024 admission period”.

Reporting on the results of postgraduate admission, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Dinh Minh Tri – Head of Postgraduate Training Department – shared: “The percentage of candidates applying for Master’s and Doctoral degrees at IU in 2023 is always high, but because the school teaches and researches 100% in English, it makes it difficult for candidates to be admitted and to follow the training program, leading to a lower admission rate than the rate of candidates applying and being admitted”. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Dinh Minh Tri also added: “The age of online information is increasingly developing. In order for the admission of Postgraduate Training in 2024 to achieve good results, it is necessary to deploy more tools to support admission consulting activities such as using social networking sites such as Zalo, Tiktok, etc. to easily access and convey necessary information, thereby attracting a large number of candidates in and outside Ho Chi Minh City”.

Through the report on undergraduate and graduate admission, the Conference provided detailed information and a summary of the admission work in 2023. The Faculty of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, the Faculty of Languages ​​and the Faculty of Business Administration also reported, contributed ideas, and specific and practical solutions to improve the quality of admission in 2024. The Conference also spent a lot of time discussing and proposing solutions to improve the quality of training, promote propaganda, admission consulting, and promote the image of the school in the media to prepare for the admission work in 2024 to achieve the set targets.
