INTRODUCTION

The construction industry has been an industry that receives large investment not only from the state budget but also from many private corporations. Vietnam is attracting a great amount of foreign direct investment (FDI), including various projects on infrastructure development, urban areas, industrial parks, real estate, hotels, and resorts. In 2023, the construction industry contributes 7.5% of Vietnam’s GDP. Vietnam’s construction market is currently worth 57.52 billion USD and is expected to reach 94.93 billion USD by 2026. With a forecast growth rate of more than 8% in the period 2021-2026, the demand for human resources in construction is huge in the coming years. According to the Vietnam Construction Association, the nation has more than 7 million workers working in the industry. In the context of increasing demand in human resources, experts predict that the construction industry will increase by 400,000 – 500,000 workers annually.

The Department of Civil Engineering, International University – Vietnam National University HCMC, was established in January 2011 to deliver Civil Engineering Program. Through a process of continuous development, in March 2021, the Department of Civil Engineering was officially allowed to open the Construction Management Program to meet the needs of the labor market. On September 15, 2022, the School of Civil Engineering and Management was established on the basis of the Department of Civil Engineering according to the University’s development strategy.

The School of Civil Engineering and Management provides students with solid technical and management knowledge. Graduates of the School are engineers who had adequate construction expertise and English skills to quickly respond to economic integration requirements and to master advanced technologies in construction. By delivering the Programs in English, students will be confident in construction work requiring a lot of communication with foreign partners.

Civil Engineering students will be equipped with:

  • Solid fundamental knowledge
  • Information technology knowledge, programming, and ability to use specialized design software.
  • In-depth knowledge in design, construction, and organization and implementation of construction activities in construction
  • Adequate English skills to meet the requirements of accessing and mastering new technology in design, construction and implementation of construction activities
  • Ability to pursue graduate programs in Vietnam or developed countries such as the US, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Korea.

Construction Management students will be equipped with:

  • Solid fundamental knowledge
  • Information technology knowledge and ability to use specialized software in managing construction projects
  • In-depth knowledge related to quantity take-off, estimating, project appraisal, bidding, settlement, cost management, and risk management in construction
  • Adequate English skills to meet requirements related to negotiation, signing contracts and communication in the construction environment.
  • Ability to pursue graduate programs in Vietnam or developed countries such as the US, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Korea.

CIVIL ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS

Designed according to the criteria of ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics) and meeting international higher education quality standards (AUN – ASEAN University Network), the programs meet the needs for high-quality human resources in the domestic and international construction industries. In addition, the programs are designed to facilitate students’ creativity, teamwork, and self-study ability to pursue research or leadership careers in construction.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates from the School of Civil Engineering and Management can work at domestic or international construction enterprises. Typical businesses and organizations are those working in the fields of transportation, irrigation, project management boards, specialized research institutes, universities, colleges, and professional schools. The demand for human resources in the construction industry is huge, so job opportunities are very open for students studying at International University – Vietnam National University HCMC.
