32% INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY LECTURERS HAVE ACHIEVED THE ACADEMIC RANKS OF PROFESSOR AND ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

On the afternoon of December 23, International University (VNU-HCM) held the Employee Conference for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Conference aimed to report on the activities of the 2023-2024 academic year and outline plans for IU activities in the 2024-2025 academic year. This year, 169 delegates from different units, representing over 530 staff and employees throughout IU attended the conference.

In the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thang, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and President of IU – stated: “The Employee Conference is an annual event for us to discuss the work and achievements of the past year. It is also an opportunity for IU to listen to feedback from esteemed faculty members, aiming to improve IU operations in the upcoming phase”. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thang affirmed that the Conference approved the direction and some appropriate system of indicators related to IU activities for the 2024-2025 academic year.

IU has achieved many outstanding accomplishments in the 2024-2025 academic year. Over the past year, 32% of faculty members held the academic titles ofProfessor or Associate Professor . In addition, IU received 02 Vietnam Women Awards, 01 “Outstanding Young Teacher at City Level” Award, and 01 Khue Van Cac Award…

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the number of students enrolled in the 2024 transition year of UWE 4+0 program was 328, an increase of 94% compared to the 2022-2023 academic year, while Andrews 4+0 program had 15 students. Furthermore, IU successfully launched the Bachelor of Marketing and Master of Construction Engineering programs in the most recent enrollment period.

IU signed a total of 44 MoUs/MoAs with domestic and foreign academic partners, completed 04 new Articulation Program applications, and renewed/adjusted other APs. Moreover, IU is progressing towards finalizing the design of its brand identity.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu – Vice President of IU- presented the activity report for the 2023-2024 academic year on behalf of the IU Board.

Regarding procurement, IU executed 09 tender packages related to materials and equipment for teaching, scientific research, and digital transformation; successfully auctioned the leasing rights for the exploitation and management of assets under the Public Asset Utilization Project at IU for leasing purposes. IU is also preparing to deploy Asset Management software entirely in 2025.

Research and Development Mission – Innovation and Technology Transfer achieved outstanding results in the past year, with 240 projects at various levels, totaling over 22.5 billion VND in funding. Additionally, IU published 594 scientific works and obtain 1 Invention Patent. IU also rewarded 83 individuals who exceeded the standard number of published articles.

IU also joined VNEI and the Drafting Committee and Editorial Project to establish Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of VNU-HCM. IU also received the RCE Award 2023 from United Nations University and achieved Top 3 in the HCMC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award (I-Star).

In terms of investment and development, IU completed the renovation and repair of 4 works and items. IU organized the “IU & THE LAWGICAL” competition to promote and disseminate legal education, receive and provide legal advice, and contribute ideas for 196 cases.

IU provided exemptions of tuition fee for 562 students, totaling over 2.28 billion VND, and conducted over 400 careers guidance and admissions counseling programs.

The testing and quality assurance (QA) work of IU this year achieved many outstanding accomplishments, most notably the achievement of institutional accreditation under the ASIIN standard with the highest duration of 7 years (until September 30, 2030), becoming the first university in Vietnam to achieve ASIIN accreditation at the institutional level. In addition, IU had 1 program achieving ACBSP accreditation, and 3 training programs recognized as meeting the QA requirements of VNU-HCM.

IU also completed Libguide for all Schools/Departments/Centers, connected LDAP to the Group Study Room Booking software for students, improved the website interface, and organized Vietnam Book Day (April 21st).

In the past academic year, IU developed a pre-feasibility study for the IU digital transformation project and proceeded with the request for implementation approval, and activated new copyright for IU firewall to enhance network security.

Research Center for Infectious Diseases – RCID also achieved some notable accomplishments with a L’Oreal Scholarship award, organizing 3 conferences, 5 seminars, and the ASM – Vietnam Webinar series.

IU Trade Union issued a resolution to admit 5 individuals to the Party and transfer Official Party membership for 04 Party members, and admitted 49 new Trade Union members. IU Trade Union also completed the supplementary consolidation of 03 personnel into the Executive Committee of the IU Trade Union for the 2023-2028 term, and mobilized staff and employees to enthusiastically participate in most activities launched by IU Trade Union and VNU-HCM Trade Union.

IU Youth Union organized and co-organized over 30 programs for students, promoted many activities and movements to enhance social skills. IU also organized online and offine programs and activities to celebrate major events of the year.

At the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thang – Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, President of IU – also presented the direction and tasks for the 2024-2025 academic year, including 04 main tasks: Restructuring and streamlining; changes in the number of lecturers/students; construction projects on buildings QT.A1 and B4; and changes on floor area per learner.

One of the key agenda items that the Conference focused on was the presentation by M.A. Nguyen Hung Thai. – Head of the Office of Finance and Planning – on the Financial Report for the 2023-2024 academic year. Subsequently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hong Phu – Head of the Office of General Administration – presented the summary feedback from the Staff and Employee Conferences of various units.

The Conference also conducted the election of the People’s Inspection Board (PIB) for the 2025-2027 term, with guidance from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phan Ky Phuc – Head of the Election Committee.

During the vote counting and announcement of election results, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hung – Head of the Supervision Board of the IU Council – presented the Monitoring Report.

To continue the conference, M.A. Nguyen Thi Thu Thao – Deputy Head of the Office of Quality Assurance and Testing, Head of the People’s Inspection Board – reported on the summary of the PIB’s activities for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The IU People’s Inspection Board for the 2025-2027 term was introduced to the Conference.

After a a thorough vote-counting process, the IU People’s Inspection Board (PIB) for the 2025-2027 term was announced by the Conference, with the following members: Dr. Tran Thanh Tu – Lecturer at the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Pham Trung Kien – Lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering, and Dr. Ha Manh Hung – Executive Committee Member of the IU Trade Union, Staff at the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

M.A. Nguyen Thi Thu Thao – Deputy Head of the Office of Quality Assurance and Testing, Head of the People’s Inspection Board – reported on the summary of the PIB’s activities for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Ultimately, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Van – Representative of Internal Political Security Department (PA03) – presented a certificate of merit from the Director of HCMC Police to IU for its outstanding achievements in the nationwide movement to protect national security in 2023.

At the conclusion of the Conference, Dr. Pham Trung Kien – Lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering – representing the secretariat, passed the (Draft) Resolution of the Conference, closing the program of the Staff and Employee Conference for the 2024-2025 academic year.
