INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WITH THE EXCITING INNOVATION EVENT – IU INNOVATION STORY DAY 2022

In the morning of October 12th, 2022, International University (VNU-HCMC) held the opening ceremony of “The Innovations and Start-up Network Day – IU Innovation Story Day 2022” in the joyful ambiance of a new school year. The event was part of the Week for HCM Innovations and Digital Transformation – WHISE 2022 and was to welcome the 11th Congress of HCMC Communist Youth Union of the 2022-2027 term.

Besides, the day was viewed as an opportunity for the innovations and start-ups of IU lecturers, students, and alumni to reach the community, linking members of the start-up ecosystem, which inspired many more innovations from the students. Furthermore, this event facilitated the projects to receive evaluations from tech experts, and prestigious investors, and create connections to boost the projects’ potential.

The event started with the Opening ceremony that saw many alumni, students, officers, lecturers, start-up projects, Research projects from the Schools and Departments, and partner organizations and businesses.

Assoc. Prof. Le Van Canh, Vice-President of IU, delivered his opening speech of “The Innovations and Start-up Network Day – IU Innovation Story Day 2022”.

Attendees eagerly awaited to the presentations of the students’ start-up projects and research projects to the judges. This evaluation and the network-creating activity aimed at assessing the start-up and research projects at IU and connecting these innovations to the investors for funding and official launch.

The judges (from left to right) were Dr. Trinh Quoc Dat, Dean of IU School of Economics, Finance and Accounting, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Duy Phuong, Deputy Head of Office of Research and Development, Lecturer of IU School of Business Administration, and Dr. Nguyen Dinh Uyen, lecturer of IU School of Electrical Engineering.

The judges included (from left to right): Dr. Ho Minh Nhat – HCMC Department of Science and Technology, Member of the Board of Directors of the National Network for Start-up Policy Research and Innovations, Mr. Le Hoang Nhat – Co-founder and CEO of Air City, and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Huan – Co-founder of iNut JSC.

The event started with 4 start-up projects’ presentations on the development of those projects at the university. The projects were rated “qualified” and officially “graduated” from the program.

A group of students from the School of Biotechnology’s Biochemistry major presented their project named “PEPPER REVOLUTION”.

Alongside the event, there was also an exhibition for the outstanding innovations and research projects, where students can talk to and connect with businesses. Several vendors also offered mini workshop and mini games.

The judges visited the exhibition during break time.

The vendor by NOTE The Scent Lab, a brand specialized in scented products, which are studied and produced in Vietnam.

Then, the event carried on with 6 outstanding research projects’ presentations from 06 Schools and Departments, namely the School of Electrical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Management, Department of Physics, etc. These were the projects done at IU with demonstration, which findings were presented and evaluated, creating the network for further development with experts.

Next was the project called “AIoT-BASED SYSTEM FOR REAL-TIME RISK MANAGEMENT OF RAILWAY SYSTEM” by the students from the School of Civil Engineering and Management

The activity ended with the presentation for the project called “Estimating PM2.5 Mass Concentration from MODIS Products in HCMC” by the students from the Department of Physics.

Representatives of the Organizers gave the bouquet and certificates to the judges.

Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Diep and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang M.S. delivered the certificates to the presenters.

The afternoon session began with the MOU signing ceremony between IU and Lead The Change organization. IU has long been a student-centered university with the desire to build an open start-up ecosystem for IU officers, lecturers, students, alumni, and the organizations and businesses in partnership with IU. Therefore, the university often searches for the right organizations and businesses and connects them with students to lend students the chance to enhance their skills and experience, enabling them to stay strong in an ever-changing world. Thus, IU decided to join hands with Lead The Change organization, a prestigious and reliable organization with the motto “Lead the Change, Change to Lead.”

Assoc. Prof. Le Van Canh, Vice-President of IU, signed the MOU with Ms. Linh Hoang – CEO of Lead the Change organization.

The day ended with the workshop called “ENTREPRENEURSHIP TALK: FROM AN IDEA TO A BUSINESS”. The workshop brought to the students many interesting stories on start-ups and the realistic picture of business operations.

With the theme ‘From an idea to a business”, the event brought to the participants stories of “Actual people, Actual events” on start-ups and the practical tips to operate a business. The talk was given by some prestigious speakers such as Ms. Linh Hoang, CEO of Lead The Change organization, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Dang, Chairperson of Koro.love Company, and Ms. Thuy Hoang, Chairperson of The Sentry company.

The speakers of the workshop “Entrepreneurship Talk: From An Idea To A Business” welcomed more than 150 students in the afternoon of October 12th, 2022.
