ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2017 GRADUATE ADMISSIONS

International University (IU), one of six member universities of Vietnam National University HCMC, was established in December 2003. As an interdisciplinary university, it is the first public university in Vietnam that uses English as the primary language in teaching and researching with accredited degrees conferred by Vietnam National University – HCMC, which are accepted worldwide. International University  has 100% faculty graduated from prestige institutions/universities, academic programs are designed in line with the programs from the reputable partner universities and well-equipped laboratory system for teaching and research provides students with sufficient and fascinating scientific research environment.

In 2017, the International University is currently offering 8 Master programs in the following majors:

I. Scholarship:

1. Scholarship levels:  (file attached here)

There are three scholarship levels awarded to Master students.

• Level 1: 100% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging program).
• Level 2: 50% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging program).
• Level 3: 25% tuition fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (not included Bridging program).

2. Scholarship conditions:

2.1.1 Based on classification of Bachelor degree, applied for all master programs:

• Level 1: for students graduated with Very Good and above level, participate in research projects assigned by School/ Department or for applicants who graduated (within 12 months from the graduation date until application submission date) from the same major of graduate program which is valid AUN-QA accredited with GPA ≥ 75 (100 scale).
• Level 2: for students graduated with Very Good and above level but do not participate in doing research with School/ Department, or students graduated with Good level. Students who receive this scholarship have to participate as teaching assistant or participate in other activities assigned by School/ Department.

2.1.2 Based on result of the graduate entrance examination:

If not receiving scholarship as listed 2.1.1, students can be considered for scholarship based on result of the graduate entrance examination.

• For students in either Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology Management, or Industrial Systems Engineering program:
  • Level 1: for the top 10% of applicants with the highest score in the entrance examination
  • Level 2: for 20% of applicants with the next highest score after Level 1 scholarship applicants
  • Level 3: for 30% of applicants with the next highest score after Level 2 scholarship applicants.
• For students in Business Administration program:
  • Level 1: for the top 5% of applicants with the highest score in the entrance examination
  • Level 2: for 10% of applicants with the next highest score after Level 1 scholarship applicants
  • Level 3: for 20% of applicants with the next highest score after Level 2 scholarship applicants.

2.2     Conditions to maintain the scholarship:

• Student must be in good academic standing with the GPA of 70/100 or above with no grade lower than 50/100; and
• Participating as Teaching Assistant or participating in research projects assigned by School/ Department, and has evaluation from School/ Department at the end of each semester.

2.3     Other conditions:

• For students registered the Master program by research, 17% tuition fee will be further deducted from the tuition fee for the whole program (applied for scholarship level 2 and 3)
• Students with good potential in research (priority for those with announced scientific research) may be employed as Research Assistants and receive the stipend of 3,500,000 VND/month (approximately $150 USD) from the university and the first author depends on research project.

2.4     Scholarship application time:

• Scholarships are granted only during official duration of the academic program. Scholarship will be terminated during extension duration.
• Students cannot receive scholarship in preserved semester.
• If matriculated students who are eligible for scholarship do not enroll, the scholarship will be canceled.

A. For Vietnamese applicants:

1. Application Submission:

Fill in and submit the following documents to the Office of Graduate Affairs by the deadline listed in section III (please download here).

• Cover Page
• Application form with photograph
• Application for exemption with photograph (those meet the exemption requirement)
• Curriculum vitae with photograph (certified by the authorities of the residential area or workplace)
• Notarized degrees and Transcripts
• Letter of recommendation from workplace (if available)
• 3 recently taken passport size (3×4) photographs
• English certification (if available)
• Priority certification (if available).
• For candidates who have bachelor degree awarded by foreign educational institution:

B. Application process for international applicants:

Step 1: Applicant submits the following items to the Office of Graduate Affairs:

• Application form with photograph
• Notarized degrees and Transcripts
• Letter of recommendation (if available)
•  3 recently taken passport size (3×4) photographs
•  English certification (if available)
• Priority certification (if available).

Step 2: The application will be reviewed by the School/Department to determine if the applicant is exempted from the Comprehensive subject test and/or pre-master course. The interview format (face-to-face or online) will also be determined.

Step 3: The Office of Graduate Affairs will notify the applicant about the application status.

3.      Tuition and Application Fee:

•  Application fee: 50,000 VND (approximately $2 USD)
• Entrance examination: 120,000 VND/subject (approximately $5 USD)
• Pre-master course, Review course and English review course:

Tuition fee: ~ 136,000,000 VND (approximately $6000 USD). Note that this tuition fee is applied for all Master programs awarded by International University, exclusive of the cost of textbooks and study materials, etc.

5.      Conditions to be exempted from the English test:

An applicant must meet one of the following conditions. (Note: these following documents are submitted together with the application documents)

• A Bachelor’s degree with major in English; or
•  A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree whose language of instruction is English.

Admission to Master program: IELTS ≥ 4.5; TOEFL iBT ≥ 45; TOEFL PBT/ITP ≥ 450; TOEIC ≥ 450; or other certificates according to current regulations of Vietnam National University - HCMC.

Admission to PhD program: IELTS ≥ 5.5; TOEFL iBT ≥ 61; TOEFLPBT/ ITP ≥ 500; TOEIC ≥ 600; or other certificate according to current regulations of Vietnam National University- HCMC.

• These certificates must be obtained within two years between the date of certification and the date of application submission.
•  Applicant passed the English test of the graduate entrance examination by the Vietnam National University – HCMC with a score ≥ 50 for Master and ≥ 60 for PhD within two years between the date of examination and the date of application submission.

4. Industrial Systems Engineering:

  • Applicants who graduated from either full-time program of Industrial Systems Engineering or Industrial Managementof the member universities of the Vietnam National University – HCMC; or from foreign universities in either program of Industrial Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Logistics Engineering, or Operations Research.
  • Applicants who graduated from domestic or foreign universities with one of these majors Engineering technology, Computer science, Mathematics, Applied mathematics, Information Technology, or Economics, must attend the pre-master course (Production Management).
  • Applicants who graduated from domestic or foreign universities from one of these majors of natural sciences in Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, or Biology must attend the pre-master courses (Production Management and Engineering probability and Statistics).

5. Biomedical Engineering:

• Conditions of registration:
  • Applicants who graduated from domestic or foreign universities in either full-time program of Biomedical engineering, Biomedical electronics, Biomedical physics, Biotechnology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Biology and Biomedical Science.
  • Applicants who graduated from domestic or foreign universities in one of these majors: Electricity, Electronics, Telecommunication, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanics, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology Environment, Animal Health of Business Administration must attend the pre-master course.
  • The pre-master course: Introduction of Biomedical Engineering.
• Entrance examination: Comprehensive subject (Mathematics, Statistic, Introduction of Biomedical Engineering), Interview (the knowledge and experience of applicants on BME, its role, its current development in Vietnam, career orientation), and English.

  • Applicants who graduated in any full-time program of: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information System, or Software Engineering.
  • Applicants who graduated in Mathematics, Computer Mathematics, Electricity, Electronics, Telecommunication, Physics – Computer Science, or Bio – Informatics must attend the pre-master course.

• Entrance examination: Comprehensive subject (Data structure, Database, Computer Network), Interview (about experience, career path, expertise, ability to describe problems to determine the suitability of each applicant with the program), and English.

7.       Business Administration

  • Applicants who graduated in one of these majors: Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or Banking.
  • Applicants who graduated in other majors including Technology, Natural Sciences, Social Science and Humanities, Medical, and Pharmacy, must have at least two years of working experience and must attend the pre-MBA courses.
  • Pre-master courses: Principle of Accounting, Principle of Marketing, Principle of Management, and Principle of Economic.
