INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIP (ISEF) 2023 - 2024

IU-VNU would like to invite qualified scholars to apply for International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF)launched by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies (CHEY) to carry out research in collaboration with leading Korea universities. More details are as follows:

À. About Chey Institute and the ISEF program:

• Chey Institute for Advanced Studies (hereafter CHEY) is a non-partisan institute launched in 2018 to identify geopolitical risks that threaten regional and global stability, to explore the geopolitical challenges and opportunities posed by scientific innovation on the entire spectrum of our society;
• The ISEF program was launched by CHEY to provide outstanding scholars with comprehensive research expenses during their stay in Korea, which include round-trip airfare, settlement support, a monthly research stipend, a research grant, and medical insurance. Scholars are expected to conduct research in the fields of Humanities and Social sciences, Energy-related, Information Science and Technology, and Life Sciences. Scholars are given the freedom to choose their research topics within these fields;
• Details of Financial Support:
• Monthly research stipend: 3,500,000 KRW/month
• Settlement support: one-time payment of 1,000,000 KRW.
• Research paper grant: 1,000,000 KRW (after submitting the final research paper at the end of the fellowship).
• Round trip airfare: economy class round-trip airfare between Incheon/Gimpo airport and the nearest airport from the fellow’s residence.
• Medical insurance: National health insurance, accident insurance.
• Publication incentives:

① 2,000 – 5,000 USD (for an article published in journals indexed in either SSCI, AHCI, or SCI).

② 1,000 USD (for an article published in journals registered at the National Research Foundation of Korea).

1. Eligibility:

• Target candidates: university faculty and institution researchers who have a doctoral
• Applicants, in principle, must be 50 years old or younger at the period of application deadline.
• Applicants must be able to carry out research in English and should not have any health issues that might hinder their research activities.
• Those not eligible:
  • Persons already conducting research in Korea.
  • Persons whose prime interest is to teach in Korea.

1. Research Period: 1 year or 6 months

• 1 Year: from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024
• 6 Months:
  • From September 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024, or
  • From March 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024

1. Application guidance:

• Become a member of the CHEY homepage and log in (chey.org).
• Complete online application: Complete the online application by filling out the necessary information and attaching the research proposal.
• Submit supplementary documents:
• 2 recommendation letters (at least one recommendation should come from a source not affiliated with your institution);
• 2 research samples that best represent your work (i.e., books or research papers) with abstracts in English of no more than 300 words;

Note: If your representative work is a book, please send a copy to the Chey Institute by mail (only those that arrive until February 25th will be accepted);

• A certificate of employment (issued within 2 months);
• A copy of Ph.D. degree certificate;
• A letter of research affiliation (if available);

Note: You can attach a letter of research affiliation if you have already contacted your host institution in Korea at the time of application submission. Otherwise, you must contact your host scholar immediately to arrange your research affiliation upon being selected as an ISEF fellow.
