
INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY HOLDS STRATEGIC CONFERENCE FOR THE 2025–2030 PERIOD WITH A VISION TOWARDS 2045
On the morning of October 31, 2024, International University (Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City) held a Strategic Conference for the 2023-2030 period with a vision towards 2045. The strategic plan plays a crucial role in the sustainable development and innovation of the higher education institution. In the context of an evolving global education landscape , establishing a clear and appropriate strategy not only helps the university enhance the quality of teaching but also provides a solid foundation for developing advanced training programs, promoting scientific research, and expanding international cooperation.
The strategic plan serves as a guiding compass for the university’s long-term directions, helping the university clearly define goals and commitments to reach international education standards.
In addition, the promulgation of the amended Higher Education Law and the inevitable trend of university autonomy, along with the recently updated and issued Development Strategy of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), are key factors driving the university to review, revise, and update its development strategy. Last April, International University organized a Strategic Plan Review Conference for the 2021-2025 period, with a vision toward 2030. The conference aimed to assess the strategic plan after more than three years of implementation and to revise and update the university’s development strategy to align more closely with the strategy of VNU-HCM.
The conference had the participation of leaders and strategy building experts from Vietnam National University-HCM. In particular, the Conference also had enthusiastic participation from teachers who are leaders, Professors, and Associate Professors of International University so that the school has the opportunity to listen to shares and discuss new directions and solutions and breakthrough initiatives in the goal of improving training quality.
At the beginning of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Văn Thăng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of International University, delivered the opening speech, expressing his hope to receive valuable contributions from the attending delegates. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Văn Thăng also read the full text of the strategic feedback letter from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Tấn Phát, former Director of the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, to the entire conference.

Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Vice President of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), attended the conference on behalf of the VNU-HCM leadership and delivered directive remarks. Prof. Mai emphasized the need for the university to carefully evaluate its strategic goals, particularly regarding the number of international students enrolling at the university, ways to make Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) more substantive, and strategies to increase the enrollment rate of graduate students and doctoral candidates. She highlighted that these efforts were essential for the university to align with VNU-HCM’s strategic objectives and achieve a high global ranking by 2030.

Six leaders of the 6 strategic groups presented other opinions at the conference. Associate Professor, Dr. Ho Thanh Phong – Former President of VNU – suggested strategies at the Conference with many valid opinions.

The conference ended with a summary and gratitude from the leaders of VNU. Party Secretary, Chairman of the VNU Council, Dr. Ho Nhut Quang, shared his gratitude for the valuable contributions of all delegates to the university’s strategy in the new period and also hoped that the university would have stronger changes in the years after its 20th birthday.
