INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WELCOMED 1910 FRESHMEN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

In the morning of October 2nd, 2023, International University (IU)– VNU–HCM held the Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2023-2024 with many delegates, guests, and nearly 1900 freshmen from 47 provinces and cities nationwide.

In the cheerful atmosphere of the opening ceremony, IU warmly welcomed nearly 1910 freshmen  from six different admission methods. Among them, there were 1444 students who came from the national entrance examination, 267 from the SAT organized by VNU-HCMC, and 03 with excellent achievement of international and national awards, coming from many gifted schools nationwide.

The ceremony was honored to witness the presence of many distinguished guests, including IU’s Board of Presidents, representatives from VNU-HCM, high school teachers, scholarship sponsors, press media, and thousands of IU K22 freshmen.

The distinguished guests and nearly 1910 freshmen from 47 provinces and cities participated in the National flag Salutation ceremony.

A dance performance by IU students lit up the mood of the ceremony.

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Duc Anh Vu – Vice-President of IU inspired students with his sincere sharings: There is a famous quote: Each individual, we are drops of water, but together, we are the entire ocean.” I believe that the school administrators, faculty and you yourselves (as our beloved students) will make up a close knit and powerful system, just like the power of the ocean.

In his speech of guidance, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Minh Tam – Vice Chancellor of VNU-HCM – did not hold back his praises to IU for the achievements in their 20 years of establishment and development. These included being the first university among the VNU-HCM members to successfully obtain autonomy, and reinforcing its status as a pioneering research university for years, etc.

Every year, to encourage the undergraduate and graduate students with excellent performance, IU spent more than 37 billion VND from the university’s spending to grant scholarships to students with excellent performance in the admission examinations and their study at the university. The scholarships which were granted based on students’ performance consist ofthe full scholarships, which cover 100% of the tuition fee, ranging from 108 million to 156 million VND, and the partial scholarships, which cover 50% or 25% of the tuition fee, ranging from 27 million to 78 million VND. Particularly, it is impossible not to mention the tremendous support from the businesses and our sponsors for their restless companionship and encouraging policy to IU students.

On behalf of the university, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Duc Anh Vu, Vice-President of IU, received the BIDV Scholarship from Mr. Dang Van Kien, Director of the Eastern Saigon branch of Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

On behalf of the university, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Duc Anh Vu received the Agribank Scholarship from Mr. Ho Viet Dong Lam, Deputy Director of the HCMC branch of Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

On behalf of the university, Assoc. Prof.Dinh Duc Anh Vu received the scholarship from Mr. Truong Hai Nam – CEO of ICFood Vietnam.

In the ceremony, the university granted 149 scholarships with a total of more than 30 billion VND to praise and encourage the freshmen with great achievements in the past admission examinations. Among them, there were 72 full scholarships and 77 partial scholarships.

Dr.Ho Nhut Quang – Secretary of the Party Committee, President of IU School Council – and Assoc. Prof. Dinh Duc Anh Vu handed the scholarships to the full scholarship holders from different Schools and Departments and posed with them in a photo.

In the academic year 2023-2024, IU welcomed two valedictorians, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoang – The student with the highest score in the VNU SAT, 1031 specifically and Ms. Tran Nguyen Xuan Nguyen – The student with the highest score in the national entrance exam, 28.5 specifically. Besides the full scholarship that covers 100% of the tuition fee, the two students also received the scholarships of 30 million VND from the sponsors, VNU-HCM Fund and the HCMC branch of Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) for their excellent performance.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nguyen – Deputy Director of VNU-HCM Fund and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha – Deputy Director of the HCMC branch of Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) handed the scholarships to the two valedictorians of IU in the academic year 2023-2024.

On behalf of the K23 freshmen, Ms. Tran Nguyen Xuan Nguyen extended her happiness upon getting admitted to IU and many dreams for the years to come.

Ms. Tran Nguyen Xuan Nguyen, a K23 freshman from the School of Languages, the valedictorian of the 1st admission method, shared her thoughts on behalf of all K23 freshmen.

At the end of the opening ceremony, in the joyful and exciting spirits of all freshmen,Assoc. Prof.Dinh Duc Anh Vu performed the rituals for the opening ceremony of the academic year 2023-2034.

The song “Vietnam oi” was performed by the international students attending and doing their exchange programs at IU.

Ricky Star completed the Opening Ceremony for the academic year 2023-2024 of IU with a blast.
