Second-class labor medal awarded to International University

On 11 March, 2019, International University was awarded the second-class labor medal by the State President for its excellent achievement in education training for the period between 2013-2014 and 2017-2018.

 

International University (IU), one of six member universities of Vietnam National University HCMC, was established in December 2003. As an interdisciplinary university, it is the first public university in Vietnam that uses English as the primary language in teaching and researching. With more than 7.065 undergraduate students and 765 graduate students, IU confirms itself as one of the top research-oriented universities in Vietnam and in Asia. In the recent years, IU has accomplished lots of important missions. The most standing achievements are the quality assessment by ASEAN University Network (AUN) and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In February, 2019, IU has 11 programs that accomplished the AUN Actual Quality Assessment. IU is also the third university in Vietnam that completes the AUN-QA Assessment at Institutional level. Moreover, ABET (USA) highly values three technology programs of IU that took part in the assessment in 2018. The result will be announced in September this year.

IU has established relationships with 10 provinces to solve their urgent socio-economic and industrial problems; deploy R&D projects and transfer technologies. IU has achieved quality R&D performance at an average ratio of 0.8 ISI journal articles for each PhD holder.

 

It is proudly to say that IU has many lecturers who get big awards in research. In 2018, two lecturers in IU receives big recognition in national and international research field. The first lecturer is Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep – Chair of Biotechnology. She won the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science – International Rising Talents. The second lecturer is Assoc. Prof. Pham Van Hung who won the Ta Quang Buu award in 2018.

 

The Competence Assessment Test (CAT) is another success of IU. In the last two years, this test has been carried out successfully. Nearly 10,000 high school students took part in the test.

 

Students – in undergraduate and post graduate programs – also get good achievements. IU has won a high rank in HCMC in general and in VNU in particular on “Students of 5 merits”.

 

IU is home to hundreds of international guests. The school also accepts international students in the exchange programs in many partner schools from the US, Denmark, Spain, Japan, Korea, to name but a few. IU also holds and co-holds numerous national and international conferences in different fields.

 

IU has continuously made renovation and maintenance to the school building. The school also pays close attention to improve the quality of the canteen’s menu. Working environment is also friendly and gets international standard with thousands of book titles getting updated in the school’s library.

 

IU creates many necessary activities for students such as trips to study the history, soft-skill classes, Job-fairs, etc. Sports and music contest are held annually for students and staff.

 

IU takes extremely good care of the quality of life for staff. Meaningful events are celebrated regularly during Tet holiday. Charity is another important part of IU’s Union. Some activities can be listed such as donations for people in the Centre part of the country who suffer from natural disasters, donations for people in the North-West, donation for Hoang Sa- Truong Sa islanders, donations for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.
