VNU-HCM STUDENTS READY FOR THE NATION’S ERA OF GROWTH
On the morning of October 20, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam National University (VNU-HCM) held the VNU-HCM Opening Ceremony 2024 with the theme “VNU-HCM students ready for the nation’s era of growth”.
The Opening Ceremony is a traditional program of VNU-HCM, held annually at the beginning of the new school year. Its purpose is to inspire pride among the school’s students, enhance the spirit and responsibility of students in implementing the VNU-HCM development strategy. The Opening Ceremony is also an opportunity for students to hear messages from speakers – including government leaders and famous scientists who inspire, arouse motivation, and determination to strive in studying and training for students.
This year, the Opening Ceremony was held in a special context. The 2024-2025 school year marks a period filled with many important events for the Party, the country, the nation and VNU-HCM. This is the year in which the entire VNU-HCM system focuses on completing the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels towards the 7th VNU-HCM Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term, the 12th City Party Congress and the 14th National Congress of the Party. The 2024-2025 school year is also the year in which VNU-HCM celebrates 30 years of establishment and development. Building on its tradition, the faculty, staff and students of VNU-HCM are always determined to continuously innovate and excel in performing the tasks of training, scientific research, studying and serving the community, affirming the position of VNU-HCM in the regional and world higher education.
On the morning of October 20, at Tran Chi Dao Hall, Ho Chi Minh City National University successfully held the Opening Ceremony of VNU-HCM 2024.
The art performance program by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, conducted by Conductor Tran Nhat Minh, opened the ceremony.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan – Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the University Council, Director of VNU-HCM – presented flowers to express gratitude to the artists of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera.
Engineer Le Duy Loan – Senior Fellow of Texas Instruments Corporation, USA – keynote speaker of the Opening Ceremony 2024.
This year, with the theme “Ho Chi Minh City National University students are ready for the country’s rising era”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan – Director of VNU-HCM – expects students to cultivate and practice comprehensive ethics and knowledge, have social responsibility, leadership capacity and entrepreneurial thinking. Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan hopes that VNU-HCM students will master and creatively apply knowledge, bringing our country into a new era of development soon. Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan said: “The country needs you – the ‘new Saint Giong’ to develop. Accompanying you is the entire VNU-HCM system, dedicated teachers; a family, a solid support, full of love”.

The ceremony also had the participation of speakers who are famous leaders, scientists, and leading experts in the world, contributing to inspiring the new generations of students of VNU-HCM. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Thao – Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research, International University, VNU-HCM – representing the research group presented the project “The relationship between the use of free time and the learning efficiency and satisfaction with university life of VNU-HCM students” as ordered by the Director of VNU-HCM.

Representatives of students of International University asked questions and interacted with the speaker.

The mid-session performance by students of the CKT Arts Club, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM left a strong impression at this year’s Opening Ceremony.
With excellent achievements in the recent enrollment period, the Director of VNU-HCM decided to award the Director’s certificates of merit to 23 new students who achieved the top score in the 2024 entrance exam of member universities and the Gifted High School, VNU-HCM.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cao Vinh – Vice President of VNU-HCM – presented the Certificate of Merit of the Director of VNU-HCM to the valedictorians of the 2024 University Entrance Exam.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai – Vice President of VNU-HCM and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tra – Vice Director of Vietcombank, Ho Chi Minh City Branch – presented scholarships to the valedictorians of the 2024 University Entrance Exam.
Bui Thi Hong Hanh – Director of VNU-HCM Development Fund and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tra – Vice Director of Vietcombank, Ho Chi Minh City Branch – presented scholarships to the valedictorians of the 2024 University Entrance Exam.
With the outstanding achievements of VNU-HCM students in the 2023-2024 school year, the Director of VNU-HCM decided to present the Certificate of Merit of the Director to 32 groups and 378 individual students. Of which, the Certificate of Merit was awarded to the valedictorians of 8 member universities. Along with the Certificate of Merit and Medal of Honor, the students were awarded 10,000,000 VND from Vietcombank.
