INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY HELD THE 9TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN VIETNAM ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (BME9)

In the morning of December 27th, 2022, International University-Vietnam National University – HCM (IU-VNU-HCM) held the opening ceremony of the 9th International Conference in Vietnam on the Development of Biomedical Engineering (BME9) with the theme of “Translational Healthcare Technology from Advanced to Low and Middle Income Countries in the Era of Covid and Digital Transformation”. This year, BME9 attracted about 300 guests with 240 presenters.

From the first conference in 2005 to the 8th in 2020, the 5 latest ones have been organized by IU. The Conference is honored to welcome hundreds of representatives from 20 countries to present every time. In recent years, with the rapid development of the biomedical engineering (BME) industry in Vietnam, the Conference employed translational technology from developed to developing countries, or low and middle-income countries, as its main theme. Therefore, Vietnam will be the intersection of the two BME fields of the world.

This year, BME9 attracted about 300 guests with 240 presenters (90 presenters from Vietnam and 150 presenters from other countries). The Conference is held with a view to promoting the growth of the BME field in Vietnam, exchanging the research findings between domestic and foreign researchers in the field of BME.

BME9 attracted about 300 guests with 240 presenters.

Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong – Chair of Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, School of Biomedical Engineering, IU, introduced the representatives and guests.

The Opening ceremony solemnly took place with the speech of the representatives from the Conference’s Board of Organizers, Directors of VNU-HCM, and IU and the School of Medicine-VNU-HCM as its members.

Assoc. Prof. Tran Tien Khoa – President of IU, delivered the opening speech.

Prof. Vo Van Toi – Former Dean of School of Biomedical Engineering, IU, shared about the significance of BME9.

Prof. PhD. MD. Dang Van Phuoc – Dean of School of Medicine (VNU-HCM) congratulated the organization of the Conference.

PGS.TS. Nguyễn Thị Hiệp – Trưởng Khoa Kỹ thuật Y sinh trường ĐHQT – điều phối các phiên tham luận tại Hội nghị.

Moreover, the morning session welcomed three keynote lectures from three experienced professors from University of Pennsylvania (USA), University of Technology Sydney (Australia), and University of Tsukuba (Japan). In the same afternoon, the main program, which are parallel session I and parallel session II, took place with the following topics: Medical Instrumentations, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, AI, and Data Science for Health, Molecular Medicine, Lab-on-a-chip, and Microfluidics.

During the conference, the participants always seized the opportunity to interact and discuss with domestic and foreign professors. In addition, the reports brought a multi-dimensional and profound perspective to the field of scientific research in the direction of biomedicine. The Conference is scheduled to continue in the next two days – December 28th and 29th, focusing on other interesting topics.
