INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ORGANIZED THE 3RD SEASON OF INNOVATION CAMP 2022

In the morning of December 10th, 2022, International University – Vietnam National University-HCM (IU) held the opening ceremony of the Innovation Camp, a camp for students’ creativity dedicated to the freshmen and sophomores across HCM City. After the success of the 2nd season that was online-based due to COVID, the 3rd season saw the face-to-face comeback with the theme called GREEN.

The camp is an intellectual and innovative playground for students, promoting teamwork and the ability to apply knowledge into practice. Besides, the Organizers wish to nurture young generations’ learning and innovating spirit as it is an extremely valuable intangible asset that would serve as the youngsters’ key to success in their future career.

Prior to the camp’s opening, in the morning of December 4th, 2022, the Organizers, with specialists in the field, held two skills classes: emotions management skills and collaborative skills.

Students from different majors formed groups with 3 to 5 members to join. With the theme called “GREEN”, every team then built plans and ideas to solve problems “for yourself”, “for home”, and “for communities” based on their background knowledge to better visualize society’s shared issues. The contest was conducted in English. The organizers also assigned lecturers and young entrepreneurs as advisors to assist teams in discussing and shaping their ideas.

Assoc. Prof. Le Van CanhVice President of International University is delivering the appreciationletter to the competition’s sponsor, Mr. Le Nhat Quang M.S. – Vice President of Information Technology Park – VNU-HCM, Director of Innovative Entrepreneurship Center VNU-HCM.

Besides, the camp hosted 3 training sessions about the essential study and life skills, together with a workshop called “The Entrepreneurs’ journey” that allowed discussion with young leaders to explore “green start-up”. Participating in the environmental series named “Green for life”, the camp fire and spending the nights together to finish tasks will surely be the amazing and unforgettable experiences for many freshmen and sophomores.

4 speakers are having conversations with the participants on the topic called “The Entrepreneurs’ journey” in the opening in the morning of December 10th, 2022.

During the two days of the camp (December 10th and 11th), the students learnt the practical knowledge, shared with friends, and developed their network. This later helped them to work better after graduating and show their responsibilities as an active citizen of the society. The Organizers also rewarded the teams with prizes to encourage them to participate. Moreover, the brilliant ideas will be chosen into projects, and later, start-ups.

In the evening of December 10th, the participants joined the activity where they designed an idea to solve a social issue and submitted the report as required.

The competition also saw the enthusiastic support from the sponsors such as Yola English center, Shinhan Bank Vietnam, Innovative Entrepreneurship Center VNU-HCM, isinhvien, Lead The Change,etc.

Mini Squad is presenting their idea about an Acrylic waste water disposal kit” to dispose waste water after painting. The kit can filter out pollutants (micro beads), recycle polluted water and contribute positively to painters and the environment.

With the intention to create the application called “Your Green” – an application that helps people follow useful habits in protecting the environment, and creating a green community, the group Greenology (with 3 members from IU and 2 from University of Science) is persuading the judges and campers about the feasibility on the topic “Green for yourself.”

The recycling products were completed  and displayed on Sunday morning, December 11th, 2022.

In the evening of December 11th, 2022, the finalization and closing ceremony of the innovation camp 2022 was held in the joyful and vibrant ambiance of youth.

Dr. Ho Minh Nhat HCM City Department of Science and Technology, Member of the Board of Directors of the National Network for Start-up Policy Research and Innovations – is delivering “The most favorite idea” and “The best presentation” award.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy – Vice-Dean of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang M.S. – IU Youth Union Secretary, Deputy Head of IU Office of Students Services are delivering the awards to teams that are highly regarded by the judges

Witnessing the innovative and unique ideas presented in the finale, the Organizers rewarded the groups of students from universities across HCM City. Among them, Greenology was the team with the best presentation. Meanwhile, Mini Squad won the prize for the most applicableinnovation and the Grand Prize. Slaves of behavior point, ba con báo, Fab 5 Greenology shared the Innovation winner award.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Duy Phuong Deputy Head of IU Office of Research and Development, and Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Diep – Head of Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer are delivering the “Innovation Winner” award to two teams.

The 3rd season of the Innovation Camp journey which lasted 2 days and 1 night ended with numerous memories and the restless efforts from the contestants. The camp also brought about many emotions, memorable moments and useful experiences to all campers.
