OVER 300 ATHLETES PARTICIPATE IN THE HCMC IU RUN 2025

On the morning of December 5, 2025, International University – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (IU-VNU HCMC) organized the HCMC IU Run 2025, attracting more than 300 participants, including students, lecturers, and university staff.

HCMC IU Run 2025 is part of a series of activities celebrating the university’s 22nd anniversary. This year’s anniversary events have drawn over 10,000 attendees, including staff, employees, students, and alumni. The celebration program includes the on-site HCMIU Run, a Tug-of-War competition, a Flashmob Dance Contest, the “Fifth Season” Fair, and the 2025 “Five-Good Student” Commendation Ceremony.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Văn Thăng – President of IU – delivered the opening speech at the festival on December 5, 2025, which was held on the university campus.

The HCMIU Run attracted more than 300 participants, including students, alumni, staff, and employees of the university. Beyond celebrating the school’s 22nd anniversary, runners also contributed to raising a scholarship fund of over 30,000,000 VND. This amount will be awarded to students who are in needs of financial support in 2026, especially those from provinces heavily affected by the recent floods.

300 runners took off as the starting flag was raised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Văn Thăng – President of IU.

The race featured 3 km and 6 km distances to accommodate a wide range of participants. Specifically, Group I included current IU learners (undergraduate and graduate students), while Group U consisted of IU’s extended community (IU alumni, IU staff and employees, as well as staff and employees from other VNU-HCM member institutions).

Athletes achievd top results at the HCMIU Run 2025.

The total prize value of HCMIU Run 2025 reached 20,000,000 VND. The Organizing Committee awarded 24 prizes—first, second, and third place across 6 categories—along with additional encouragement prizes, with more than 300 athletes participating.

Among the 300+ runners, the oldest participant was Prof. Vu Thanh Bruce from the Department of Physics—born in 1962, 63 years old, while the youngest was Cai Nguyễn Quốc Thịnh, 18 years old, a student of the Faculty of …, born in 2007.Among over 300 amateur runners, approximately 75% were students, and 25% were staff members, alumni, and others.

Various other activities also took place on December 5, 2025, celebrating IU’s 22nd anniversary.

In addition to the run, a series of exciting and vibrant activities were held from 6:00 to 19:00 across the campus. These included: “Tug of Fun” Tug-of-War Tournament: Teams representing Faculties/Departments/Offices/Centers competed in a spirited display of teamwork, strengthening the bond among IU members. “THE FIFTH SEASON” Food & Culture Fair: Featuring booths from student unions, clubs, teams, and businesses, the fair created a diverse space of culinary delights, accessories, fashion, games, and fundraising activities. “Step Up IU” Flashmob Competition: Teams from various Faculties/Departments showcased energetic and creative flashmob performances, enhancing the sense of connection among IU students. Recognition Ceremony for 157 “Five-Good Students” of 2025: The ceremony honored outstanding students who achieved the prestigious “Five-Good Student” title at the university level.
